Englewood Health to Open 75,000-square-foot Medical Complex in Journal Square

Englewood Health is expanding its footprint in Hudson County.
The health care system that operates Englewood Hospital in Bergen County is creating a three-floor, 75,000-square-foot medical facility in the heart of Journal Square. The new health care hub, billed as a one-stop shop, will include a wide assortment of patient services, including primary care, urgent care as well as specialty services such as orthopedics and diabetes care.
It will be located in the recently renovated office building at 2 Journal Square on Kennedy Boulevard across the street from the Stanley Theater.
Englewood Health’s largest investment in Hudson County to date is aiming to capitalize on the revival of the Journal Square neighborhood that has seen new high-rises built and more in the planning stages.
“We’re just excited to be able to bring our services and our physicians to the community and honestly best serve those people who have lived there for a long time and all the new people that may be part of that growth in that area,”
said Michael Pietrowicz, senior vice president of planning and program development at Englewood Health.
The company’s decision to move into Journal Square comes as the neighborhood continues to see constant new real estate developments and major new business investments.
The long-dormant 1 Journal Square “twin tower” project is moving forward and in February, the city announced Devils Arena Entertainment would be taking over the historic Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre. It is expected to draw major live acts.
Englewood Health’s existing presence in Hudson County is largely through small or mid-sized medical practices, mostly in North Hudson. The company’s expansion comes after CarePoint Health, which operates hospitals in Hoboken, Jersey City and Bayonne, ended its affiliation with a number of practices.
The new space is expected to open in the fall and see hundreds of patients a day, Pietrowicz said.
The nine-story building recently underwent a massive $10 million renovation after GAIA Real Estate purchased it in 2011. So far, other new tenants include Chase Bank and Chicago’s Pizza With a Twist.
